JCK-Jewelers Circular Keystone -- 4/7/2005

Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys and Jewel will be front and center in a new World Gold Council campaign to promote Italian gold jewelry in the U.S. market.

Keys will be featured in a four-page consumer advertising campaign entitled ?Gold Expressions,? while Jewel will perform for U.S. retailers at the June launch event of Gold Expressions: the Language of Italian Design.

Gold Expressions, now in its second year, is a collection of new gold jewelry designed and produced annually by Italian goldsmiths, including Roberto Coin, as part of a collaborative effort with the Vicenza Fair, the Italian-based international trade exhibition. The product development initiative features over 430 trendsetting gold jewelry pieces produced by leading Italian manufacturers, aimed at reviving the desirability of gold jewelry worldwide. The GE 2005 collections will debut to U.S. retailers at a live event in Las Vegas on June 2.

In addition to Coin and the Vicenza Fair, Cond? Nast Media Group and AngloGold Ashanti, the second largest producing gold mining company in the world, are partnering to bring this campaign of Italian design innovation to the U.S. market.

?The timing could not be better. Gold?s return to the fore-front of the fashion world has catapulted gold designers like Roberto Coin to heightened popularity, not only amongst fashion trendsetters, but among celebrities, as well,? says John Calnon, Managing Director for the World Gold Council U.S. operations.

The four-page advertising insert featuring Alicia Keys will show her wearing renowned Italian designer Roberto Coin?s newest gold jewelry styles and will run in June issues of Vogue, Vanity Fair, W and Architectural Digest. The segment shows Alicia Keys in four images, each coupled with a ?Gold Expression? drafted by Keys herself. The section is designed to give an insight into the real Alicia Keys, revealing both her energy and her positive attitude toward life.

At a June 2 event, singer-songwriter Jewel will perform an exclusive concert while wearing Roberto Coin?s most innovative and beautiful new styles of gold jewelry.

The U.S. debut of the GE 2005 Collections marks the third stop on the global tour for this grouping of Italy?s gifted gold jewelry designers and manufacturers.

I'm telling you it's getting harder to defend Jewel against the "Jewel is a Sellout Crowd." ;)

How convenient that her name can be used to promote Jewelry? I'd love to see the paycheck for this type of event. Last year she was at an opening of a jewelry store in Las Vegas. Hey she's not doing this stuff for free dude. I never said she sold out, just that there's too many out there that that will say so. Every time I see those intuition Razor commercials I think CHA-CHING baby! She gets money every time that commercial plays! I bet she's making much more money in royalties off commercials than she made with radio airplay of 0304! Good for her. Selling out is very profitable when done right. You go girl... :P

The Beatles for years fought the use of their songs in commercials, but they finally sold out. What took them so long? Music is a product to be sold to the highest bidder. Allowing songs to be used does not take away from people appreciating their work.

Here's another article about this event.

Quote:
Jewel to headline Gold Expressions launch party

APRIL 12, 2005 - Las Vegas -- Singer-songwriter Jewel will perform at a Las Vegas party celebrating the U.S. launch of Gold Expressions: The Language of Italian Design, a collaborative project between 69 Italian goldsmiths, the Vicenza Fair and the World Gold Council (WGC).

The party, to be held June 2 at the Wynn Las Vegas, also marks the first-ever Signature Salons, an exhibition space dedicated to elite jewelry designers. The event represents a collaboration between WGC, AngloGold, Ashanti, the Cond? Nast Media Group, Roberto Coin, Vicenza Fair and the VNU Expositions Jewelry Group.

Gold Expressions features all-new Italian gold jewelry designs and is the result of WGC's research-based product development initiative, aiming to bolster the style and design of gold jewelry and broaden its consumer appeal.

"The Gold Expressions collections for 2005 represent exciting, commercially relevant product for the American retailer," says WGC Managing Director for the Americans John Calnon.

The inaugural Signature Salons will also take place at the Wynn from June 3-6, immediately following the Couture Jewellery Collection & Conference there.

"The World Gold Council, Vicenza Fair and Cond? Nast were the first to support our launch event years ago, so it is particularly fitting that we launch the new Signature Salons at the Wynn with these same valued partners and important industry forces," says VNU Expositions Jewelry Group Operations Director Mindy Fielman. "We cannot think of a more exciting way to inaugurate our prestigious four-day event, and we know that we can rely on the standards of excellence they always bring to the party."

Signature Salons is booked to capacity with 170 exhibitors, 100 of whom will only show at Signature Salons during the Las Vegas market week. The list of exclusive Signature Salons exhibitors includes David Yurman, Kwiat and Charriol. The show will have no registration fee or minimum-spending requirement.

Wynn Las Vegas is a new casino hotel that's not even open yet. It's supposed to blow away the competition with ultra high end shops. They will have all the big names like Ferarri Maserati Channel Dior Cartier... You know all the stuff only an A-list celebrity can afford. I'm sure this event will be invitaiton only, but it would be interesting to go to this. The grand opening of this hotel is April 28th. The paint might still be drying when Jewel gets there.
