"Hey man ! This is a BEAUTIFUL LIFE."
-a beautiful line from the song "TILL WE RUN OUT OF ROAD"
from the album "THIS WAY"

"It doesn't take a talent to be mean."
a line from "I'M SENSITIVE"
from "PIECES OF YOU"

"Hush... Sleep.. Don't Think...Just Eat..."
from "FATBOY" (fragile flame)
"SPIRIT" album

some lines which made me think and smile and eventually realized that "LIFE IS REALLY BEAUTIFUL".

WHAT PARTICULAR LINE OR LINES IN ANY JEWEL SONG YOU LIKE BEST?

Lyric interpretation is always subjective. So here's my two cents on this lyric.

I actually find this lyric quite depressing. She's talking to this overweight boy and saying don't think, just eat. In that, his eating has become a second nature to him and he's not even thinking about it.

I dont know... How were you interpreting it?

Cant say i have a particular favorite lyric from any of Jewels songs that 'Stand' out, i do love a fair deal of them alot.
but the thing about her music that makes me think that life is beautiful, is the fact that some of her tunes tell this wonderful story of love, passion, and sadness...one which stands out for me the most just has to be 'Painters' that song is wonderfuly written and tells a story of a perfect relationship and love that ends in sorrow but all the wonderful memory's remain of a joyful life gone by, in thought and picture....makes me think life is a beautiful thing!!!

Oh yes! You're absolutely right. I fully respect if that's the way you want to take it. No contest for that. As what you've stated "Lyric interpretation is always subjective." We can take the lyric "literally" or we can "dig deeper" to find it's meaning. Jewel has an explanation about the way she presents her lyric, it's in the bonus interview of the DVD- HUMPHREY'S...

First, THANK YOU for trying to get my opinion of that line. Well i took it as if i was giving FATBOY a weightful of advice but at the same time, i was trying to make him feel weightless which was of course ironic. I thought of interpreting it using the reverse psychology method. I guess I took it as if my heart caught between depression and compassion. There's a conflict in it's content, and that's the reason why I think it's worthy of discussing. Don't you think so PinkFleshyHeart  ?

umm.... oooooooooookay.....

I think that "Spirit" was her most 'optimistic' album, and when you listen to it 724 times, it sounds awesome, but on the 725th time, it startes to sound cheesy, annoying, and incredibly naive. Thats why "Spirit" is probably one of my least favs.....

i think that its good that Jewel is an optimist, and I think it fits her well.. but i cant stand to listen to songs like "Life Uncommon" because of the cheese factor... tastes like cheddar if you ask me.

Your interpretation is thoughtful. What did Jewel have to say about it herself? I have the DVD, I just too lazy to watch her. And sometimes listening to her talk gives me a headache.

I think it's better if you watch it, you might have a better interpretation than i had when i watched it. But if you'd be still lazy in the days to come, let me know and i'll watch it again for you, so i can give you the full details. OKAY! :pufi:

Hmm, this ones another headscratcher question, hmmm (lemme think , i`ll get bak to you on that one)
It may be a cop out, but i kinda like most of her words. Her songs are pure poetry and mean so much when put together in song.

Well I have to add my 2 cents to this topic, I love the Spirit album & I don't see it as being cheesy at all. And Life Uncommon is probably my favorite song Jewel has ever done, so I'm not tasting the cheddar when I listen to it... I think it's totally uplifting, besides that song is very personal to her seeing as she wrote it for her best friend.

Oh goodness, there's so many little phrases Jewel uses in her songs that I absolutely love!

On the GAIW album, here's a few that stand out for me:

"Tryin' to find justice with six strings."

"Everything's temporary, if you give it enough time."

"Fame is filled with spoiled children, they grow fat on fantasy."

"A heart can hallucinate, if it's completely starved for love."

"Life is much better without all those pretty lies."

"This crazy mixed up beauty is all that we have."

"I'm a modern day troubador."

Last but not least, the dedication at the end of the booklet:

"For Ty, because in a world of fiction, you are a truth I can believe in."

"The geeks and the freaks all light cigarettes and laugh at your misery"

"Feels like being underwater now that I've let go and lost control"

"Darkness exists, except where you are"

"Your hopes in the sky but your heart like grape gum on the ground"

ok well one that comes to my mind isn't on a cd, its from the "See Sassy" song.

"Papa said,"She's too cute for words!" so Sassy never learned how to speak."

i'll do more later lol
