Although i live 50 miles away from where this happened. Oil Refinary Explosion
I was woken up on Sunday morning by two large bangs. At first i thought it was a couple of barrels of a shotgun going off in the fields, they like to shoot game birds around where i live. But later when i heard the news i realised that the same two bangs where the refineries going up in flames. Now, this morning after a long journey to work i can see the smoke from the top floor of our office. Its still burning 24 hours after the fire started. We have been told not to drink the water as it could be contaminted, also most schools are closed in Hertfordshire. The University is Unfortunatly open grrrr which meant i have to come into work, but hey!, everythings good. So for anyone who knew where i worked, and lived near here, you can stop worrying now coz its ok. Soon be xmas :lalala: dave.

I remember a few years ago when they had the forest fires in Canada, we could smell smoke all the way inpast the Susquehana in PA. It was terrible. Anyhoo, hopefully nobody got hurt too badly there.

I had wondered but I knew you were very near Cheshunt and I knew they weren't close enough to be closed so I figured you were ok. However in saying that...you took your time reasuring us.
Glad you're ok and it's a miracle no one was killed. I know that area reasonably well as I visited cousins often in Luton. They are all fine but have gone to stay with friends further away as they are in the thick of the smoke which is thought to be toxic. Their houses are fine. No broken windows thank God. They weren't close enough for that. |

sorry ive had to take the pic from almost on the roof, and only had my PDA with me today. The fire is still burning and is about 10 miles away. The plume of smoke that is drifting from the fire is slowly going out to sea. Aparently, there are three more fuel containers still on fire. Which explains why the smoke is still black rather than white from steam. I dont know if the fire has created world news or not? perhaps some of you would let me know.? Dave.

Well my cousins are back home. They are within 3 miles of it. They decided to go back coz the major danger was over. They have been told not to drink the water or use it in cooking etc and also to wear masks outside until further notice. They believe there are a lot of toxins coming from the kerosene etc into the air.
I believe France are pissed that there's this big toxic cloud heading their direction. Rightly so, I suppose we would be too if the wind were blowing in our direction. |

Yeah but Kiera, does anyone actually care what sh*t lands on France :lmao:
.......latest today is that the last of the fires is out, and from my window i can just see a smallish plume of smoke. The locals like Kiera has said cannot drink the water. As far as the government have said there will be no lasting effects!! - yeah right........if i suddeny turn green and start talking with a french accent theres gonna be trouble. :lalala: dave.
