wow some heated argumenys here. Lol. Can't we all just get along??? Bottom line is that people grow. I've been listenig to Jewel since the 8th grade and with each album of hers I know what it feels like to GROW!!!!!!! I like new forms of expression and ideas. I don't articulate my ideas and thoughts in the same fashion anymore, I think, and analyze. I've had many experienc4es in my life that have shown me a new way of thinking. To think that a musica artist does not experience these things if truly naive. Jewel is a dynamic person who has come form a small Alaskan community to multi-platinum selling artist, wit the whole world exposed to her, of course she's gonna show signs of departuire from her "normal" stuff musically becuase she's been exposed to new sounds and styles. Hello look at Madonna. If you listen to Ray of Light oit shows al ot of harmony and spirituality.....things Madonna was discovering in her life when she found Kabbala and had her daughter. Jewel was expressing sexuality and dance on 0304 because those wrolds were being opened to her. She had hits on the dance charts with remixes, and she's in a commited relationship, who wouldn't make an album that reflects such happy experiences.
Also, Stand was a good single but unfortunately people don't like to hear Smart music. Look at Madonna and her Amrican life album. It was reflective of politics and such no ne wanst to listen to that. No one wants to listen to Jewel make politcal satemenst becasue they rather listen to Beyonce talk about her stupid Baby Boy. I wil buy and ant Jewel album regardless of sound because I DON'T THINK JEWEL OWES ANYTHINGTO HER FANS!!!!!!! SHE'S NOT "OURS" TO HOLD OPINION OVER. |

Ok im just another one that agrees with justin...but he has alot of very good points, very intelligent points i must add! and they all make perfect sense...
look...its simple like justin said if Jewel carrys on the way she is she's gonna wind up with a limited 'cult following' on an independent label! and she sure will...back to the days of old singing made up songs written on the back of some toilet paper,in down & out coffee bars,if even singing at all!!! Despite all that i DO think Jewel has the musical ability to reinvent herself! but she's just NOT using it! it seems to me that Jewel's individual thought patterns are thinking up some random music to write and produce and thinks to herself "yeah that'll do" hence '0304',which was'nt a particular favorite of mine i must admit, nor was it anybody elses it seems, but it had its moments tho (kinda) but for Jewel to write such a good album such as her finest POY and then go down hill is just not right somehow!? once you do a good album like that theres always musical ability and talent within you...i think she will deliver :muhaha:

In response to my asking that just because Norah Jones has won many Grammy's for her manufactured cd that is so pedestrian she should have appeared on American Idol...does that really mean she is a better artist than Jewel??...Lonely Lullaby writes:

Baha Men for "Who Let The Dogs Out" -2000 Hootie and The Blow Fish- "Let Her Cry"- 1995 Michael Bolton- "When a Man Loves a Woman -1991 and "How am I Supoosed to Live w/o You"- 1989 Jan Hammer- for "Theme to Miami Vice" -1985 Ray Parker Jr.- "Theme to GhostBuster's"- 1984 Rick Springfield 1981- "Jessie's Girl" Milli Vanilli as Best New Artist???? Toto- Best Song for "Rosanna" in 1982 Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears also have Grammy's.... I don't know who votes for the Grammy's but they like a lot of pop schlock if you ask me!! Congratulations Craig !!!
That was the most 'selective' list I've ever seen !!! Any reason why you left out Elton John, Billy Joel, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Carole King, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, U2, Eric Clapton, Dion Warwick, Alanis Morissette, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Santana... need any more ??? Ummm... at least that dress should've won something. ;) Hey Craig... check out this page and see what Jewel's mum said about that dress: http://geocities.com/jewel_australia/ThatDress.html Easy... ;)

But the reason I left out the above was because I was employing a concept known as humor to illustrate a point....See my list of Grammy winners is funny because many people consider them talentless and it goes to show talent is not always a prerequisite for winning a Grammy award. :P Craig |

I added Dionne coz:
In 2000 VH1 said that Dionne had the second-highest number of appearances on the Hot 100 chart of any female singer in history. (first was Aretha Franklin with 77 appearances) And... Dionne has at least 5 grammies. And remember how our Lovely Princess was telling us how dynamic Jewel was... even at country music ??? Well... wasn't it the mediocre Leanne Rhymes who got in the way of Jewel's grammy ??? Easy... ;)

Just out of curiosity Prez, but how many unreleased songs have you heard so far?
As for the grammy crap, I for one don't base my opinion of talent on how many awards an artist has won. But, that's just me. And after Jewel releases this next album and decides to do something different, I'll be the one saying "I told you so." But, like I said, we'll see.

that I've not heard. I get emailed all sorts of stuff... often from Kilcherian strangers. Quote:
When Jewel was collecting gold and platinum for Spirit & POY, yeah, Kilcherians were braggin from every mountain top on earth about it. Then, when Jewel releases a mediocre album that doesn't rate too much... then, the very same Kilcherians change their tune. They then say that awards and public accolades don't mean too much... Jewel doesn't make music to satisfy the ignorant masses. So Tracy... which way do Kilcherians want it... they can't have it both ways.

I don't know, because I'm not one of those fans. I personally don't care how many albums an artist has sold or how many awards they won. None of that means ANYTHING to me as long as I like the music. That, is the main thing, and remember, it's only your opinion of whether something is mediocre. It's not fact.

judged mediocre or otherwise. It's the record buying public who'll decide what's mediocre or worthy of acclaim. After all, the bottom line is... EVERY artist wants to sell records. Why else would they make them ??? To remain in obscurity ??? Good try though.

There are a lot of people who take political subjects and turn them into songs.. and they don't have any trouble, in fact songs that touch up on the issues of today become more popular and appreciated by the public It's the music that sucked ^_^ And honestly by your logic you would think that no one sells-out that way they just experience life in a different way ;) I'm sorry but money does dictate a lot of the career decisions for many artists And as far as grammys go- I don't base my opinion on an artist based on awards either, but I do think that it's still an achievement |

You know what!
I want Jewel to realse her album already. So i don't have to hear all this bs going on here. This whole topic is nothing but people putting down people because of their opinions. This is getting sickening to read. However at the same time it is very entertaining. On another note. Jewel is in no hurry to relase her next album. So I can't wait to see what other arguments will arise here. Have a nice day ~Shawn~ |

In the music industry there are artists and entertainers. The record companies are more concerned with sales than many of the "artists". Have you seen the documentary about blues legend Screamin' Jay Hawkins called "I Put a Spell on You?"... Director Jim Jarmusch has the best quote in it. "Anything worth anything is always found on the fringe" When people are more concerned about selling records than their craft and artistry, they should not be in the industry anymore. Try reading "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" if you want to read a great story about quality in life. Craig PS- regarding the Grammy's...Veiling Meat...WELL SAID!! :) |
