Jewel/Baltimore/Gift
I would like to give Jewel a gift from my vintage jewelry company tomorrow night at the Baltimore concert. I don't want to be obtrusive, just simply leave it on the stage during a lull or something since I have third row seats. Do y'all think this is a good way to go or are there other ways I can be assured that this gift gets into her hands?

That sounds like a good idea to me. Just putting it on the stage.

You've tried to do this before if I recall. I take it you were unsuccessful which is a pity.
I think I recall you saying you do vintage jewellry. The only thing I'd be concerned about is, if you left something so precious on the stage, then someone could walk away with it and Jewel would never see it. A few people have mentioned meeting Jewel after the show by just waiting around for her. Perhaps you could try that. She apparently goes to her bus and an assistant has been known to come out and collect stuff for Jewel to sign then bring them back. You could do that to get your gift to her! |

I chickened out last time believe it or not. This time, I figure I will. I thought about the after-the-show thing, my fear is that by the time we find out where it is, they will have left. I wrote the venue and they suggested giving it to security and they will give it to her manager. I might see if I can ask security to bring out the manager or her assistant to take it personally for her before the show. A bit pushy however I'd hate for the piece to just disappear, as someone here just suggested. If that doesn't work before the show, I'll try finding the tour bus.

I had a blast Kyle! Glad you came and thanks for walking with me to the security drawer. I hope the gift got to her. That security woman was so nice - I went back after you left and she said that Jewel's personal assistant did pick up the gift. Time will tell (hopefully).

That's good that you managed to get something through to her. I will see if I can find out if she definitely got it through her management. What did you give her in the end?

The show last night at The Ferguson Center Concert Hall in Newport News VA was great. Drove from DC. Somehow the thought of seeing Jewel in a small concert hall of 1,700 as opposed to a casino seems more appealing. Plus Steve Plotz, not sure how many of you know who he is, opened up. Always great to see him and his witty ways. Towards the end Poltz came out and did a duet. Having seen Jewel many times with band and without I'd have to say without she seems to be more in her element. Aside the show being great there was a funny start to the show. Jewel walks out wants to start to play and then notices on both guitars neither has a guitar strap. Sort of hard to play without support. So for a couple of minutes guitar straps had to be found and then placed on. Our girl? Nothing fazes her. Always the calm pro with a few jokes mixed in. One last thought and this may apply more to Jewel's management than Jewel. DROP the casino shows. The crowds at a casino are just way different than say a concert hall or places somewhat alike. A casino hall and Jewel's music is NOT a match. Just an opinion.

I gave her a beautiful circa 1880-1890s necklace. It's 14K yellow gold overlayed with sterling on the top. The main part of the necklace is a circle with rose-cut diamonds surrounding a periodot. Above the circle are three rose-cut diamonds in the shape of a triangle. The chain is plain sterling. Platinum wasn't used in jewelry until after the turn of the century, so sterling was poured on top of yellow gold to create a white metal setting to show off diamonds. Rose-cuts are one of the oldest cuts and really sparkle in low-lighting situations, such as candlelight. I would definitely call it an everyday piece, meaning it would look good with jeans as well as dressy clothing. I figured with her lifestyle, this was a better choice then something more ornate. I can post a photo when I figure out how. I just tried and hopefully it will appear!
I'm hoping she did get it and chances are she did. Thanks so much Little Bird for offering to check for me. My feeling is that it's a risk I took and was more then willing to do so. Last edited by lindawmn; 11-21-2006 at 11:06 PM. Reason: Adding photo |

I agree it looks nice. The reason I was asking was she was wearing some vintage necklace at the show in Newport News, so I was hoping it was yours. Seeing the picture, I don't think it was. What she wore was like 3 copper-ish circle-shaped medallions on 3 chains (or perhaps a single chain folded over a few times). I can definitely see her wearing the necklace that you've posted though. Fingers crossed that it will be spotted sometime!

It's absolutely beautiful. I would just adore that for myself! And that is real antique jewellry. Lovely for anyone to have.
It is a really easy piece to wear by the looks of it and I just hope that Jewel appreciates it's worth and it's value...if you know what I mean by the difference. Haven't heard anything back yet on if she definitely got it. |

Little Bird, don't worry so much if you don't hear back. The piece 'felt' right to give and if I could not have afforded a loss if it doesn't get to her, I wouldn't have given it, you know? It's something that I felt she would really enjoy. I have had years of enjoyment from her music, had years of enjoyment now on the guitar and truly feel I wouldn't have learned to play had it not been for her songs because a lot of them are structurally very simple which is smart on her part since the melodies are more complex. Rosy and Mick as well as Studies in Love #12 were the first songs I learned to play! Little Bird, can you email me at lindawmn@aol.com? I've something to share with you for your kindness.
The necklace is quite beautiful and the photo doesn't do it justice. Those rose-cuts can be hard to photograph (as can brilliant-cuts) and the truly subtle beauty doesn't shine through in photos. They tend to look flat, at least in my lighting. Worn, the necklace doesn't command attention like brilliant-cuts do but rather adds a lovely rich look to what you're wearing. There were other pieces I had, such as some nice sterling Art Nouveau bangle bracelets that I know she would have liked, but when I picked up that necklace while going through my stock, it 'spoke' to me. I just knew it was the right piece to give. L. |
