Okay, you're right, Kiera, back to the quesiton in hand.
I read jewel's book ANWA, and it changed my humanity, my course of thinking. It promoted, along with her music, to have civil lrights for all and to belileve in most accuracy, that we are all human (ten fingers, ten toes, n all). That is it's impact. Jones |

Well, I wouldn't really say that my life has been dramatically affected by Jewel's music to degree of some of the members on the forum. It is something the girls and I like to listen to together as we are driving and it is cool to hear them singing along to it, and alot of her lyrics put into words thoughts I have had for some time...so I guess it is inspiring in a poetic sense.

this simple quote alone has affected my life and it comes into my head at times when my human nature wants me to be selfish or worse..
"We must demand not more from each other, but more from ourselves."

I thought of posting this once again as i feel it's related to this thread.
From the thread: "How Did you get Introduced" By: bluediamond I posted this on: 10-29-2005, 03:25 AM (This is a long story, be patient on reading it) Back in 1996, i was still in my first year college, the Philippines was busy listening to grunge music, NIRVANA et al.... I was hook with a song called "RUNAWAY TRAIN" by Soul Asylum (I still do listen to it once in a while up to now). It was also then that i started collecting records (cassette tapes in particular) as you know, I am living in a third world country, Cd's were introduced to us far behind, so things which are in with you comes later with us. That same year, I remember the saleslady from Tower Records recommending me "Pieces of You' tape (the first ever released), it has Grammy Nominee sticker on the cover which was of course impressive, so i got it, i listened to it, once, twice, but that was it. Years had past, Spirit came, i didn't buy a copy though it had a big promotion over here, Jewel became MTV-ASIA Artist of the Month (May 1999), but i wasn't paying much attention of JEWEL yet. Not untill i had listened to "WWSYS" (vh1-storyteller-live version). You know that VH1-Storyteller compillation album.Wow! that version blew me away. I found myself hook on that song, i played it a billion times, and told my friends about that song. It was around year 2000, when Jewel took a break I began to fall in love with her music. So then, i took away POY album from my collection and put it in a very special place, then i started collecting Jewel stuff. The happiest and most rewarded was when i got "A LIFE UNCOMMON-DVD", i didn't attend my classes for a week and locked myself in my room, bought everything i needed, food, water and everything, for 1 week i was watching that DVD, every second, i never got tired of watching it and not still up to this moment.... Now, JEWEL has become a big part of my life. For me "SHE'S THE GREATEST", "THE BEST", and my LIFE will never be complete without her music. I have all her 5 CD's, 5 DVD's, and more unreleased stuff. But i've never seen her live. She hasn't been in our country, but I'm still hoping she will visit the Philippines soon. To all the co-members who had seen her live, you know your stories of watching her live, of seeing Jewel in person, makes me smile ... It makes me happy as if I was also there. But, what makes my life more special now, ---is that knowing I'm not the only person in the world , who believes that, this GREAT ARTIST MUSIC deserves to be heard by the rest of the world. I JEWEL FOREVER!!! |

What's with Jewel that made me really want her? I don't know, I still am wondering all this time. Well, what I know she stirs me up. There is something inside of me, that responded. I write poems so naturally, I don't know how, when and where it started. Maybe its been there just standing still inside me. But when I read and heard Jewel's music and insights, it just gave me an inspiration, that is why I call her my muse. What a lovely muse personified.

Yeah I agree until Jewel entered my life, I had no poetic drive or anything. And now I feel like I can express myself through poetry, whether it's good or not, it's easier for me now to just let all the abstract thoughts flow from my mind onto paper. So that's another impact Jewel has somewhat had on me..

Me too ! Listening to her songs and reading some of her poems in the last few months has really inspired me to write more poetry than novels (not that I'm a great writer!).
When I discovered Jewel my English was not very good (a few months at school!) and her voice was the first thing that moved me. Even if I found at that time that she had the same voice as Tori Amos...well , maybe that's why I like both singers so much. It's that kind of voice... Yeah , "Foolish games" moved me a lot just with the voice and it(discovering Jewel) definitely opened a new chapter in my perception of music and writing.

I guess in some ways I've become an even more deep thinker since I've really delved into her music. Also, I'm going to learn guitar too because of her inspiration. I'd just like to learn a few songs and play them once in awhile. I also like some country music, so I could learn all my favorites and maybe even come up with some of my own! :-)
