Default Taylor Guitars Newsletter - Jewel Interview

With big thanks to Lindawmn, one of our treasured members here for this find.

Linda sent me a copy of this Winters' Taylor Guitars newsletter 'Wood & Steel'. This season, there are 3 full pages of an interview with Jewel.

Before going ahead and typing up the full interview and scan the pages in for you all to see and read, Linda kindly sent me the following link, thus saving me the trouble. LOL.

There, you will see a direct link to the full PDF of the Interview with Jewel!

It's a really great interview. It gives great insight into Jewel's opinion on guitars and her playing methods. I learned a lot.

I bought one last year used. It simply sings/ an absolutely lovely piece of wood. The Satinwood is gorgeous.

My local guitar store has a pristine one used. If anyone is interested, please PM me.

Me too! I'm about to pull the trigger on one of their 30th anniversary issues. Can't decide whether I want a spruce/maple or a cedar/mahogany. I have a cedar/hog Takamine so the maple appeals, but there is nothing like a cedar/hog for fingerpicking.

i'm typing a research paper over Taylor Guitars right this very minute lol
my teacher was like, "Can we shorten the paragraph on types of taylor guitars? There's just so much."
Now you tell me how the heck you're supposed to do that when there are so many?
you have types and models and different woods and styles and series! goodness!

And now they are re-naming stuff. AUUUGHHH

I do love my Taylors, though the Baby Taylors could be a bit nicer sounding. Probably more size-related. I hear they sound better when someone else is playing, i.e. projected outward. I plan to order Fossilized Walrus Ivory saddles and pins for both mine (I like the fact the walrus has been dead for a loooonnnggg time and died naturally at that) which should help some. The Big Baby sounds very pretty however, VERY, for a laminated guitar. That one is my beach guitar. You just can't damage the darn thing it seems!

I ended up pulling the trigger on the spruce top/maple anniversary issue. God, that thing is pretty! But I'll tell you, the Nigerian Satinwood on the Jewel guitar is just tops! If anyone caught the In-Style magazine layout of Jewel's ranch, you can see her taste is just fantastic, so I'm not surprised she chose the Satinwood. Look at how pretty!

Thanks for that article, I loved it. I just hope and wish that someday we will be able to hear Jewel's original album, The Hollywood Hills Sessions, because I can ASSURE you that I would see no need for tempo increase. We would all love it, wouldn't we???
