I know he is considered old but I love him.
Just flicking through my Zen during the week and I rediscovered Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers 'She's the One' soundtrack album. To all that aren't really familiar with him, his more famous songs are 'Into the Great Wide Open', 'Learning to Fly' and 'Free Fallin' You can listen to snippets of streaming tracks on his 'radio' section of the official site www.tompetty.com I just thought I'd rejuventate some interest in him as I passed down memory lane listening to a lot of his tracks. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are still going since the 70's. A testament to their talent and well worth a listen. |

He sings alot about weed it seems.
In the one song he says something like " so lets roll another joint" and then theres "Last dance with mary jane one more time to kill the pain" Either he likes to write about drugs or he is very creative in using drugs in his lyrics as a way to take away pain and heartache.

Bit of both really but that is all very much in the past now. In the 70's and 80's he was a bit mad about drugs but his latest stuff isn't like that at all.
I love his song 'My Name is Joe' from the Last DJ album. It's a little different. Actually just about 'last dance with mary jane', I remember the video being banned in Ireland for years. He was dancing with a corpse. Very odd. |

For some reason growing up I remember that video and it was one of my favorites. Which I thought was odd. That's a very good song though. "Last dance with mary jane"

My favorite Petty song is "American Girl", it's just such a good song! Of course since seeing Silence of the Lambs, whenever i think of it I think of the scene where that girl is abducted and thrown in a well...

I love so many of their songs, but I like more of the later stuff than the stuff from 'American Girl' but it's all good.

I love Tom Petty. I actually got to see him in concert this past summer. It was amazing. I think every single person in the audience was singing with him the entire time. So beautiful, it brought tears to my eyes. Kinda corny I know, but I don't care!!

I would LOVE to see him live!!! I would think it would be a great show. Lucky you. He really is a great entertainer with upbeat fun music but knows how to be sincere and serious too.
Love him |

Ever since Tom Petty toured with Bob Dylan I can't understand a word he sings. I think Bob taught him how to mumble better. Don't get me wrong. I own every album Bob Dylan ever made and I like Tom Petty. It's just a random observation.

Can't say I'd ever noticed before now. Kind of funny actually.
I seem to understand everything Tom Petty says but almost nothing Bob Dylan says but there is distinctive Bob Dylan Slur to Tom's voice I suppose. |
