I believe the Merle thing was *never* intended to be a hit. They did not release That's The Way Love Goes to radio, but it still got some airplay. They didn't make a video for it. Anyway, it was never an official single, so you can't say it didn't work.
But I do think Jewel will be embraced by many country lovers. I was researching about Nashville Star and other things, and it seems country fans are willing to give her a try rather than bashing her immediately like many others do. Her duet with Merle was very well received among critics and fans and Jewel does have a country lifestyle, much more than many country stars. So I think she can pull it off much better than she pulled pop-diva off. And I just hate when people limit others. I'm a filmmaker and if I ever have a big hit with a drama then I go on and make a comedy, am I selling out? Why can't I try all the things I want to and feel I can do? People need to open their minds and expand their possibilities. That's the only way you'll grow as person and as an artist. I'm positive that Jewel grew much more by doing 0304 rather than if she'd done POY2. Goodbye Alice could NEVER be done if she didn't go throw 0304 and release all the beats she had in her mind. Edited to include the *never* Last edited by fabiojj; 10-11-2006 at 04:17 AM. |

Yes that's true she can, but I think if country fans now can relate to her through another country star, it would make the transition easier... I know it happens a lot in hip-hop and R&B and stuff.... the BEP's used Justin Timberlake to get through the door did they not? Not saying Jewel needs that but it would help I think.

YES That was very well put. You said everything I was thinking
~~ Ok I need to add that I love the version of 'Silver Wings' that she did a duet w/ Merle. And I also happen to LOVE Someday Soon that she sings with Garth Brooks, I am definately ready to hear some country from her, it will be really nice. Now that I'm thinking about it, I think it would be expected of her to do a duet with one of the male country stars, I think she should do like a powerful duet with one of the female stars that are popular now, like Sara Evans or ... I know Christie would want me to say Faith Hill

How about she pair with her look alike Miranda Lambert..
Or maybe the much awaited duet JEWEL and MICHELLE BRANCH which we will never see happen but I can still dream |

Has anyone heard a song that Jewel wrote and performed called "I Don't Want To Be Loved By Anybody But You"??? It's a long title, and probably not the real title but it's the chorus that stands out.
THIS is TRULY a country song!! She has a little 'wail' in her voice (borrowed from her yodeling I'm sure) that I haven't heard from her before that is just amazing and really country-sounding....you can feel the pain in her voice. The song is great and I think it would be wonderful on a country album. In the recording I have she says "I could do country songs all night!!!" I personally can't wait to hear a country album from her.

'Don't Want To Be Loved By Anybody But You' -as performed by Jewel- Oh the night drove on and on Now that you're gone And that you're far away My thoughts seem to stray But I sit alone instead And know that you're not there Even though you're not mine Forever I'll pine You may call me foolish *Oh I try and you know it'll be true*(somewhat inaudible) But I don't wanna be loved By anybody but you. Don't wanna be loved By anybody but you. Oh just the other day I saw you walk by Hearts, they don't stray I thought I might die You may call me foolish *Oh I try and you'll know it'll be true* But I don't wanna be loved By anybody but you Don't wanna be loved By anybody but you.

Why would she pick the worst song on the album to make a little video for? She needs to release Words get in the way or Only one too as a video/single, not just to clubs. I think Words Get in the way would do great!
I could see her as a country artist, though I cant imagine liking that material as much. She needs to do some of that Serve The Ego style! Mix some rock in her music!

You should to be more sensitive to the fact that you can make people upset when you say what you think is Jewel's "worst song"...What may be the 'worst song' to you could, in fact, be someone else's favorite song. Jewel can perform many styles of music. As a Jewel fan yourself, you should know this and take that into consideration when you post things like this. Honestly, it comes off as bashing. Thanks...
