Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Had he been singing the songs praises, there probably wouldn't be an issue. We need to accept that we aren't going to agree with one another on every song.
Stephenville happens to be one of my all time favourite Jewel songs. I think it is extremely honest and cheerful and makes no apologies for how she has reached this point in her life. I just love it. I'm looking forward to the video and really hope CMT embraces it. It is such a huge channel in the US, that I think it will bring really positive attention to Jewel's music. |

Ok this thread is getting a little heated, it's becoming POP JEWEL vs COUNTRY JEWEL or something... we all need to just chill out. Ok some of us may hate a song like "Doin' Fine" and others may hate "Stephenville, TX" while some may hate "Jupiter".... it's all personal preference... who cares? Let's just be civil. Besides, Jewel never said she was trying to release Stephenville as a country hit single... she's simply making a low budget video for it just as she did for GAIW.. it seems to me the video, like GAIW, is going to be something she is just sort of doing to do... for the fans. I doubt CMT will pick it up. Did any channels even pick up GAIW? I know it is on the Target dvd and on Yahoo and Youtube and all, but was it really picked up? This is just something she is doing to do, so let's just enjoy it

While we may not agree on every song and yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion, we still don't need to tell someone else that a song they happen to like is the 'worst'. I just think we should be a little more civil when expressing our opinions, especially when we all understand that Jewel performs all kinds of music. I like both 'pop' Jewel and I like 'country' Jewel, in fact I like all of Jewel's music and that's why I'm here. This isn't about just 'Stephenville, TX', I'm saying this in context to all of Jewel's songs in general. Jewel is very open and performs many different styles of music, I don't know how any person who is a Jewel fan can not understand that fact and respect all of her music accordingly.

Oh yeah a nice classic album with some Ella covers would be great, wouldn't it? Jewel certainly has the voice for it.

Jewel singing 60's and 70's folk songs would be awesome... maybe she'll do that when she gets older, like Dolly Parton just did and Chris - on a country album I don't know what old songs she would record for it, I could HOPE HOPE HOPE she would do "I'm Fading" but it's not really a country style song, so I'm sure that's out... possibly Everything Reminds Me of You.. but then she would need a partner and Joe Firstman isn't really country... HEY! MAYBE she'll have Fragile Heart version #4 on there!! hA! well maybe she could do a track with some yodelling on it, that would rock.

Oh I think there have been enough American Pie covers and I don't think any of them are any good. I think the original is best and I think it would be tragic if Jewel did a cover.
Maybe some Neil Young, James Taylor, Carole King or even Bob Dylan covers would be cool. But I have to agree, Everything Reminds Me of You (which I simply adore) could easily be adapted to country and even though Joe Firstman isn't at all country, I still think he could do that one song. I love his voice. It's very powerful. |

I love his voice but I wasn't very happy when he was on stage dedicating a song to a stripper.
