Well, I haven't delved much into french culture or music, though at some point I would like myself and my girls to learn french...but if you want to recommend some french artist that would be fantastic!

I <3333 <3333 <333333 FRENCH TOAST!!!

I'm not really in to Euro pop lately. I've been checking out some German pop, and it's just creeping me out. I think it's been getting a little technoish.
If you could send me a link to a place where I can listen to some French pop I'll give it a try.

Well i'm sorry to say there 'Ptitours'...but i'm not a great fan of most things French, hey i'm English no seriously tho, i can understand any Frenchies dislike of the UK....but i'll Give france as a whole a high ranking for it's exquisite yet rich historic past, from the a la grande 'Notre Dame' to the Normandy battlefields etc
Although i think driving round the 'Arc de Triomphe' is the most dramatic and horroric experiance!!! sort it out!!!! its madness.
Music wise i know a couple of excellent French metal bands, and i'm very good friends with Jerome a (Riot Officer) from beleive it or not Paris! we play Call Of Duty (computer game) online, one bloody good Sniper he is...the ******* hahahahah 'Knet88' is his killer name on there...beware if you spot him...and duck or lose yer brains!

German pop scares me too, KJM , but luckily we have better music in France !
So , Veilingmeat , you're English ? See you soon , I'm coming for a Foreign Language Assistant job next year ! So I like England a lot... Well , if you go to Paris , it's better to walk (except when you have to cross a huge avenue in a few seconds!) plus you hardly find a place to park the car !
I think that despite political problems and history France and England still have a strong link. Some 900 years ago you used to talk old french there !
I may add that my nickname "Ptitours" means "Little Bear" in english. Your first French lesson !

So , here we go for a first French Pop link... :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCNsYjdKOiw

It's a music video from Buzy , a 50-year-old female singer , who had a big success in the 1980's with a few hits such as "Dyslexique"(500000 copies sold , in 1981) , "Adrian" , "Body Physical". She worked with french legend Serge Gainsbourg. Her last album "BorderLove" was released in 2005 and a "greatest hits" double album will be released next month. Enjoy !

Lol@ Marc, it seems to me that world peace may be accomplished by all the gamers of the world realizeing that if I can play computer games with the people they think they dislike, then maybe we could actually get laong off the computer too!
As for France, I would love to visit there someday, I have been making feeble attempts at french style cooking, and to be honest I imagine it to be a beautiful country. The language is certainly beautiful!

Haha...very true Ptitours my good chap! but not all of England, lets not forget we being the most mixed and messed up country in the EU atm...mixed up with Scandinavian (Vikings), Mediterranean (Romans) Germanic (Dutch) lol and prolly loads more,Immigration Pah!!! i wont go there! mind you i think we're alike in almost every war there has been since records began we've had our arses kicked some way or rather buy an infamous army of some sort hehe...
Cant say the vid appealed to me much, at least i'm honest very arty farty!
and Andrea....it is a dispute on online gaming, but only for a laugh, Jerome wins more often than not tho, coz as he always picks a sniper, he's absolutly LETHAL!!!! and pure class. I'm more of a frontline soldier in that game, rather be in the thick of it amidst flying bullets and grenades! with my trusty Gewehr 43 and Sturmgewehr 44 if you can pressurise Jerome on not being able to hide...you kill him easy lol!!!
Just look at the sod...he's off his chump

Anyway sorry i'm drifting off the subject here (as usual)!!! besides, its related to France and oneday i want to visit 'Caen' and 'Villers Bocage' hopefully next year!

When I was in college, my boyfriend lived with a bunch of guys that were in rock bands. A couple of them were HUGE music nerds (nerds in a good way) and one of them had a CD (or was it a cassette tape??) of a 5 year old French rapper. His name was Jordy. (I think... and he may have been a bit older than 5 but not by much). Anyway, it was HILARIOUS! Super funny! So whenever I think of anything French, all I can think about is this cute little voice rapping french words. I wish I had a recording of it or something. The guys thought it was so funny, they went as far as trying to contact Jordy's fan club... unfortunately it no longer existed.

Ha ha ha , awiste ! I know that Jordy... He's 18 now , he won a reality tv contest(don't know if it's the right words) where a dozen old famous people (rather people who had been famous!) had to work in a farm !!! He also released a book. We're not very proud of his music but he sold millions! His father was an engineer and while working he got the idea to make his son sing because the boy was playing with the mic !
Okay , just for fun , there's a link:
http://www.fbesp.org/jordy/
Let's talk about good music now !
What about this ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7x7pLihOho

Mylene Farmer is a famous female singer in France. She's 45 , she started her career in 1984 for fun and five years later she was on tour all over the country ! This video of "Que mon coeur lache"(1992) is directed by Luc Besson. She also released an english version , "My soul is slashed" but it wasn't a success.
I'm waiting for your comments (not too much on Jordy please !!!)

Oh God , Awiste , I can't believe I posted a link for Jordy on a Jewel forum. It's such a shame for me ! Well , to please you , I'll even put a link for the music video :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ftzzY5VDNU

But I beg you to listen to Mylene Farmer after that , so you'll see we're not completely...how can I say ?...musically challenged !
ps : the two songs were released at the same time in 1992...unfortunately Jordy topped #1 for 15 weeks (only put down by Whitney Houston's "I will always love you" which was followed by another Jordy #1 hit , "Alison"!) whereas Mylene reached only #9...

Wow! I can't believe he was number 1 TWICE and knocked out only by Whitney Houston--crazy!

Well, I must say, Mylene Farmer is wayyyy better than Jordy...

Thanks for the links!

Well that's what we can call the "dark side of France" !!!

Another exemple: this song that topped #1 for 13 weeks in 1987 , talking about having a party and getting drunk !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAGYh...related&search=

That definitely doesn't help us french people being taken seriously !

Here's one I love !!!
Keren Ann isn't born French and she often sings in English but it's with French songs that she became famous in France. She started in 1998 as a leader in a band.
Here's an english one , "Not going anywhere" from the album of the same name , in the Victoires de la Musique (music awards).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1504cSBhWG0

Let me know what you think about the song !
