Default Reputation questions

Salutations to all who read this,

Kiera explained it once to me in a PM, but could someone including Kiera please be so kind as to explain the Reputation meter again?

Example, what hapens if someone disagrees with your post, does that hurt rep points? If someone gives good reputation points, how many are awarded and how does this scale work. Is their some goal of rep points that I should strive to achieve, or how does the forum policy and individualists on the forum go about using this function?

I try to add reputation to at least one person every day, and usually more than that daily occurs. Does anyone use this function other than myself? Just wondering about its whole purpose.

I think it's a lovely idea and something that is also very orginal.

Please respond or advise,

PO1 Jones

And like I mentioned in the pm, it is not finished yet. I haven't finalised anything yet and just haven't had the time.

At the moment, it is simple. If you like a post/thread, then you can reward the member with a reputation point a leave a message as to why. Incidentally, it works both ways, you can also remove a point if you are particularly incensed by the post and think the member should have a point removed. Though I doubt we'll have any problems with that. I ask members to be very careful with the whole thing and make sure that you don't take points away unless it is really called for. I am really just trying out the new scheme so if it looks like it is being abused, though I doubt it will, it will be removed.

I see it as a good thing because people will know when others like their posts and get rewarded with points.

Some members have already been using this feature which is why I left it running. Please note that I have no time frame of when I will be finishing the whole scheme as I have a lot of other projects on right now. I hadn't wished to draw attention to it yet but as you've raised the question, I hope this post sheds some more light on it.

It does, and I'd add more reputation points but I think I'm at my maximum for the day. I like the idea, and really think that it serves a brilliant purpose. I just can't wait for it to be finalized and ready to go, so I can learn mroe about this thing. It sounds very original, also, if I may add.

Thanks for the information and I look forward to using it in the future.

Kiera can everyone see who is giving and taking points? Or even the person who they are being given/taken?
Example: let's say I take a point from Chris, can he see that it was me that took it?

No. You can only see who gave/took away reputation points. You can't see who gave/took away points for anyone else.

I guess I've never really paid attention to this point system!!! I just post and I'm on my way...I'll have to look more closely!

I foresee this system being used a lot now-a-days... especially the subtraction of points.

Wait a minute, so people can subtract points just because they disagree with your post? Is that really fair? I think it's fair to subtract points if someone is being mean-spirited or rude, but is subtracting points just because of a silly disagreement really rational? Does this mean we'll all have to walk on eggshells worried about being scrutinized in everything we say? I thought this was supposed to a place where people could bond over Jewel's music, not make enemies.

And here come the negative points...

I actual kept the subtraction to keep it fair though I sincerely hope that people will either not use it or only use it in absolutely extreme circumstances.

At the end of the day, this is just a trial. If I do feel it is being abused or misused, I will remove the feature. Simple as that. Though I think the benefits are great and it's lovely when people get rewarded for their good posts. That is the true spirit behind the whole reputation thing after all!

I agree with Kiera. Please don't abuse the system and no you don't have to walk on eggshells. People are either going to disagree or agree with you it's just a matter of life. Feel free to speak your mind. But please use this rationally.

I want to be clear that I was being funny with my earlier post about the subtraction of points. Some of the newer members might not get my sarcasm or humor but I have never taken points from anyone and don't plan on it. That's counter-productive to me, I would rather use that feature to focus on what people are doing right. Those that do wrong know they are wrong and that's good enough for me.

ha ha ha. I can't answer officially but I think you win stuff if you have a certain amount of points. Kiera will have to really answer that one.
