Wow. This is a pretty profound question. I can only imagine an old-fashioned southern spiritual would be appropriate-couldn't settle on just one though so a medley would solve that problem. Bagpipes also sound nice. My friend always jokes he wants "Purple Haze" played at his funeral. If I were to be cremated I'd like to have my ashes thrown on my favorite lake.

Hey L~D~R.Pleased 2 meet ya.This is not a weird Q at all.In fact I may be ahead of ya on this Q.I contemplated this Q & A several yrs.ago.My decision was made a long time ago & shall remain that way until God claims me.I want the song"Near U Always"played @ my funeral.I realize the lyrics do not correlate with life & death, however it is my ultimate choice regardless.Jewel is deeply embedded in my heart & soul for all of my remaining days upon this earth,& I want her near me always throughout all eternity in Heaven as she is upon the earth within my life.Jewel Rules!4ever.Amen.Godspeed!Cybear((bear~hug))p.s.I' m pleased 2 meet U also Christie, that is a beautiful choice by the way.I read the lyrics 2 the F.Hill song.Excellent.Take care & Godspeed!Cybear:=)

Hails to thee Cybear nice choice!
But back on the songs front...i really think i'm gonna have to think this one out, as most of us..including myself, have the tendency to just grab our most favourite 'sad song', i reckon tho that theres plenty of great tracks out there that have relevance to our lives, if ever need be played out or funerals!? otherwise we'll all be saying songs like "Wind Beneath My Wings", "Candle in the Wind", "This Is The End" and "Every Breath You Take" yada yada...great songs for our ole bereavement none the less, but lacks the precept behind our lives!
Forgive me for be a technical freak

LOL - I've never known anyone to play 'This is the end' at a funeral but I could see the funny irony in it and think it would be quite hilarious. Probably wrong of me to think that but hey, I can't help it. Hee Hee

while we are on this topic, what does everyone want for their burials? I mean like cremation vs embalming fluid burial, etc, etc.
I am asking cause I want to have a green burial. It's where your body is left as is and wrapped in a shroud and buried in a designated area (only certain areas are legal for green burials). Actually it's rare to find areas preserved for green burials and there's one in South Carolina so I kind of lucked out there. Anyways I don't want to be cremated but I don't want to be pumped full of embalming fluid either so this is the route I want to go when I pass.

Interesting topic, I actually heard about this not too long ago. I think it's cool. I'm leaning more toward cremation though.

Hi you
love is also the key for such an event.

I was and I'm still deeply touched by Dante's Prayer from Loreena McKennit, especially when I listened to it a few more times.
Here is the song on youtube with animation at :

... and for sure Ave Maria and Angel standing by with Jewel ... word can't relay you have to listen and feel it ...

ciao casymyr
