Default Jewel Goes Cheap

JEWEL GOES CHEAP TO PROVE HER POINT TO LABEL BOSSES[/COLOR][/SIZE

Quote:
Pop star JEWEL is determined to show her former bosses at Atlantic Records how cheap it can be to record, release and market acts after filming a new music video for just $5,000 (GBP2,560). The Alaskan singer/songwriter is in between record deals after parting ways with Atlantic, and she's out to prove you can be a star on the cheap. She says, "From the time I grew up I sold records and I worked free to promote myself. I think it's pretty much swapped where you pay to advertise yourself with records and you start to look at music now as a promotional tool. "I'm going to continue my career by trying to make records that are affordable. I think records cost too much and have such a big burden that you can't make it back as an artist or as a label. "I just made a video for $5,000 and filmed it on Super 8 (film) on my ranch. I think you have to make cheap affordable videos and try to make music about music again which for me works because I was never about being very cool anyway, so sincerity works in low-fi."

I thought she posted the thing about Jewel giving up acting which was also on contactmusic.com.

Yeah, it looks like Dave's attention span issues are infectious. Everyone be warned

It's veeeeeeeeery cheap! Lol, This Way, which was an extremely cheap video costed 50,000. Most of those videos you see out there cost betweem 500k to 1,000k

yup.... video production now-a-days isn't cheap. It's sad how expensive things have to be. It is the Stephenville video she is speaking of, isn't it?

I would venture to say that the video for GAIW was probably "cheap" too. It seems to have been shot in the same manner as ST was. That song also wasn't officially released to radio either, just like ST. Jewel is making videos because she thinks the songs deserve it; not on what record label execs think she should do. Go Jewel!!!

Did they ever release a statement on how much GAIW video cost. Seems to me that video would have been way cheaper than Stephenville since it's just a straight shot of her and there were no extras and all..... hmmm

I totally agree!! I've been requesting this video at both CMT and GAC (another country music channel) ever since it came out. I really wish it would catch on, especially at CMT, because they have so much clout in the country music industry. I'm hoping that maybe with Nashville Star they will air the video and that will create some buzz about it. We'll have to wait and see.
