Well Sheryl Crow's "Detours" sold around 93,000 copies its first week out, with very little radio play. I think that would be a good benchmark. Alanis' new album comes out next week, so we can compare it to that too.

Hmmm, Alanis' new CD Flavors of Entanglement is not a very good comparison, in my opinion. Her single Underneath is being played on VH1 and other similar Top 40 formats, this is sort of like Alanis' version of 0304 since she has adopted some beats and loops. But I guess we'll see?

I was thinking Flavors of Entanglement sounded a lot like her version of 0304, too!

Both Sheryl Crow and Alanis are coming off a higher sales base on recent albums than Jewel though. It's a reasonable comparison I guess, but I would expect both of them to sell slightly more than Jewel at this point...

You can monitor how well Jewel is selling here... http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/sales/salescht.cgi

it usually gives a pretty accurate result. Jewel's currently #8.

Chris.

It's up to 40k and only 58% of the sales have been reported so looks like it'll be above the 45-50k they estimated... maybe more like 60k.

I won't re-post that again as Gary did but I have to agree with all your points musicfan. It's not Jewel's sales that have gone down, it's album sales in general.

She should be #1 on the country charts and that will be good. Once she starts touring sales will start going up. Brad Paisley concerts are huge and whole lot of people are going to be seeing Jewel who have never seen her before and they will be hooked...
I think this is going to be like POY, it will have slow start and than take off.

The final numbers are in. She is at #8 with 49,066 copies sold. I'm surprised Ashanti did so well.

It's likely that Ashanti will drop down but I'd expect Jewel to stay relatively high up. Granted, all that can change if Ashanti brings out a kickin single. Not fond of her stuff myself but she can be popular over here so I'm just going with that instinct.

Ashanti's single "The Way That I love You" isn't a big hit...so she'll drop a lot next week.

Considering Strong Woman isn't top 30 anymore, i'd say it's not too bad. they are probably going to rush "i do" now. kinda fusterating that she's promoting her country album, yet only singing two songs from it on a country tour...

She is only singing 2 of the songs off the cd, why would she not sing more?
