Disneyland
My wife and I recently took our daughter to Disneyland. It was the opening weekend for its holiday theme. It was amazing - the holiday parades, the lighting of the castle, the holiday theme fireworks, and even Small World was changed to the holiday theme.
I had not been to Disneyland in about 2 decades. It's only a hour's flight from our house, yet it never occurred to me that I would go back. After all, it's a kids' park, right? Well, I was wrong. Work has been tough in the last few weeks, and this long weekend with Mickey and Minnie was exactly what I needed. I never thought that I would be "enchanted" by the sight of the Princesses and Minnie Mouse. It was terrific to see our daughter posing with all the characters (she's 4) - she took photos with about 18 characters - and it was a complete blur to her, but we relive the experience with photos and videos. It reminds me of how it's so important to get away from it all. We work so hard (paid or not), worry about so many "what ifs" and stress about the littlest things. And of all people, a guy in a mouse suit reminds me without saying a word that in the end, seeing a happy child is all that matters. |
