Default A signal of trouble in the teeth

Good oral hygiene is required to prevent many teeth and gum problems.

Oral bacteria feed on the food we consume and form plaque over the teeth. Bacterial plaque is the cause of a number of teeth problems. If plaque is not removed, it will harden to form tartar. This will lead to bleeding.

Bacterial infection can damage the gums leading to a condition called gingivitis or the inflammation of the gums. If gingivitis is not treated, it can develop into a serious condition called periodontal disease or gum disease. Periodontal disease can affect tissues in the mouth. If left untreated, it can result in teeth fall or even removal.

Gingivitis or gum disease is characterized by Gum bleeding. The inflammation of the gum margin around the necks of the teeth can lead to bleeding.

Gingivitis can usually be cleared by good dental hygiene. Regular tooth brushing and flossing after meals will remove plaque and prevent gingivitis. We must also cut down on sweets, chocolate and other sugary food to prevent plaque from building up.

Gum bleeding is common in pregnancy. Hormonal changes weaken the connective tissue in the gums, making them softer. An increase in blood flow causes bleeding.

Stress, smoking and poor diet can also trigger gum bleeding. Some people are more prone to bleeding gums than others. Diabetes and side effects of certain other drugs can also cause gums to bleed. The other causes of bleeding gums can be Vitamin C deficiency or scurvy.
