Under the Water
I love this song now. Before I was never really into it, but I started paying attention to the lyrics lately.
How did I miss all of these 'Spirit' album references?? "Innocence ain't lost, it just needs to be maintained, it needs to be maintained " "I wanna live brave, I wanna love without fear " am I missing any other references here? ---------------------------------------------- Bees are buzzin' in their honey catacomb All the noise seems to call my head a home Can't escape the scratchin', my blood makes a noise It's hard not to play when there are so many toys, so many toys Under the water The total is more than the sum Under the water I hear who I'll become There's a hole inside my head where all the thoughts break out Sometimes my flesh is filled with forgetfulness and doubt It's easy to feel separate, no control of the reigns Innocence ain't lost, it just needs to be maintained, it needs to be maintained Beside me are strange fish, moody and dark A tapestry of intention that maintains the spark And there's a tiny light, a flicker within Forgiveness is the needle that knows how to mend, it knows how to mend Under the water The total is more than the sum Under the water I hear who I'll become I've decided to hear who we will become Wanna lay down in the water, go back to where I'm from Outer space is just a puzzle of stars Music, the mechanics of the human heart A post that stirs, a shadow that casts An insatiable thirst drains a martini glass There's no place sacred, no honest reflection Our senses made senseless by a lack of direction Monks are great with their fists uncurled But they live in a cave, they know nothin' of the world I wanna live brave, I wanna love without fear But it's hard to navigate when I can't even hear Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo Bees are buzzin' in their honey catacomb All the noise seems to call my head a home Can't escape the scratchin', my blood makes a noise It's hard not to play when there are so many toys, there's so many toys Under the water The total is more than the sum Under the water I hear who I'll become Under the water My flesh is filled with stars Under the water I hear who we really are Under the water I lay my burdens down, down, down Under the water All resistance drowns Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo doo Come on, come down, down, down under, go Go down on and go down under Under the water I hear who I'll become Under the water I lay my problems down Under the water All my resistance drowned

Very unique song, I like it too! What a "jewel" to find!

I love the monk line too, it''s great. I really underestimated this song when I first heard it, sort of like my reaction to hearing 0304 for the first time, but now I love that too. It always reminds me of Blondie's "Rapture" when she sort of raps that one verse

I love doing song analysis. The lines are very potent and a lot of soul searching. How can I miss that song. If I were to analyze the song, here are my thoughts :
The world is such a scurry and hurry busy business She feels she'd like to rest from the magnitude of exposure but she doesn't want to shut off herself from the world Just a little retreat where she calls home-where she will recover and find her basic and essence of her soul; her artistry to find space, where innocence is always there and purity of thoughts. In this way, she will wash away those extra baggages she needs to detach. She is seeing herself in the mirror and would like to assess, if this is the same person that she would like to become. To sum it all, this is a song with a very reflective mood by the songwriter,Jewel Last edited by greenpoet; 01-08-2007 at 01:44 PM. |

At first time i didn`t give much attention to under the water, but its really very nice!! It`s funny how Jewel put her spiritlyrics to the song ^^, it is like she did it willfully and for her fans =) Its a very special song thx for posting your opinion!

I love this song too. Even my husband likes it and he's not very keen on Jewel. I downloaded some Jewel songs onto his Zen one day and that was on it. He had his Zen on shuffle and came across it one day and was really impressed with it. That's good coming from him. He's a real music buff. (Ironic considering he's not a fan of Jewel but appreciates her music)

this isn't really the place for this post but it ties w/ what u were saying Kiera. My wife isn't really a fan of Jewel but she appreciates her music, but since I turned her onto the Pull Club Mix of Only One Too, she's always listening to it. She even gets mad if I try to skip over it on the mix cd she made....

the pull club mix is very very different from all the rest, it slows the song down and gives it a really eery sound and feel to it. It's pretty creepy. I love it, I'm not sure if I like it more than the original though, but I might. My ears really like when I play it.
back to under the water~~ does anyone know if Jewel has ever performed this song live??
