PC first week sales
"Reprise Rockers Top the Chart with 230k+ Total, Weezer, Now 28 Also Hot
June 4, 2008 Windy City rockers Disturbed are popular not just in the yeshiva, where they attract a following from lead singer David Draiman’s background as an Orthodox Jew, but apparently on the HITS charts as well. Mazel tov, guys. The Reprise act’s fourth album, Indestructible, appears to be just that, with one-day retail reports pegging it at a first-week total of 230-250k, which should make it #1 next Tuesday. The band’s previous two albums, 2005’s double-platinum Ten Thousand Fists, and 2002’s platinum Believe, both debuted at #1. Weezer’s new self-titled DGC/Interscope release, already dubbed by fans “The Red Album,” will ride a diet of the hit single “Porn and Beans” to a debut in the 150k range, fighting it out with Capitol’s Now 28. Universal Motown pop R&B songstress Ashanti’s The Declaration looks to be in the 80k range. Journey is the latest brand name act to go the exclusive Wal-Mart route with their latest, Revelation, the first with new lead singer Arnel Pineda, which should do around 80k as well. Jewel’s first country album, Perfectly Clear, for Big Machine’s Valory label, in on target for a total of 50k. The market was pretty much flat vs. last week, down 13% vs. same week last year and now off 11% year-to-date. Anyone know where we can get a tank of black market gas below $4?"

Where is that information from? I like Stronger Woman should've also been given to VH1 because they would've played it. The week GAIW came out Again & Again was their most played video. They could've tweaked the song a little bit for VH1...
I still think this album may got platnium.. the Wreckers did, . |

So what are we looking at #6 or lower...
Depending on how the current top 10 looks.. You think it will break the top 10?? She needs to stop releaseing her albums when rock artists are doing it First Metalica Then Tool Now Disturbed |

I'm glad you like it. Looks much funnier than stupid ***'s
I think these sales figures are excellent. Huge success for Jewel. It took ages for GAIW to even get to that target, let alone do that in it's first week. Well Done Jewel! Quote:
Can't very well put pussy in there as a lot of people here have cats and there was a member who's name was Richard but went by the nickname Dick so couldn't keep that out. He hasn't been around here for years but I'll keep it out of the censorship anyway. As for a-hole. I thought that was in there so I've added it. Thanks for the heads up |

It IS poor compared to Jewel's past openings, but if you look at country's normal chart, it's actually good. The Wreckers opened with 40k with a #1 country hit and ended up selling almost 1000k, so Jewel with a top 15 country hit and selling 50k seems good enough to me. Let's just hope she can maintain those sales. If she hits gold (500k), than this album will be very successful.

Taylor Swift had 88,000 sales first week, Kelly Pickler had 79,000 first week so I guess Jewel isn't to far behind. I just thought Jewel would have a larger # for her first week, but I agree for country this is good.

It's misleading to compare it to previous album sales as well as the market has declined so much even since GBAIW, but especially since 0304. The week 0304 was released (almost exactly five years ago actually) 50k sales would barely have made it into the Top 20, whereas today it'll be good for Top 10, and actually last week it would've been #4! And GBAIW debuted at #8, which is roughly where Perfectly Clear is gonna debut so in relative terms this isn't much of a drop.
Also, when 0304 came out, it was off the back of a Top 10 pop radio hit, but it dropped off pretty quickly after that as the tour was cancelled and radio didn't pick up any of the other singles. Whereas it seems like there's a lot more mileage in this album at country radio, and that combined with Nashville Star which is only just kicking off, and a support tour playing to new potential fans, will hopefully mean this album will stick around a lot longer... |
