Sirius radio mentioned country album today

I was listening to the Sirius satellite radio tonight (on The Pulse station) and they announced that we can look for Jewel's new country album to be out in late 2007. They stated she's written 20-30 songs for this new country album and is paring down which ones she'll put onto it. Sounds like this is happening faster than we thought!!! Very exciting news

I recently asked Alan (MrBB) about a song on an old setlist called Divine Communion and he said it was among a group of songs only performed in private concerts or at friends weddings. Jewel Unedited is down ATM or I'd post his reply here. Anyway, he said they've been working on getting a list together of her songs that lend themselves to country and that that's keeping him busy.

Well I've read and I believe I posted here that Jewel is supposedly recording her country album in Nashville along with hosting the Nashville Star. I also have read she's got 20-30 songs and she's narrowing them down. Things are certainly going fast this time!

I think that has a lot to do with it. Also she's gotta keep the country thing going while she's still getting exposure on Nashville Star. Ideally I bet she'd like to have at least the first single released by the end of the show....but I don't think that's going to be possible. We'll have to wait and see.

It's actually a long time in the making. Jewel has set out to make a country record almost her entire career but Atlantic wouldn't go for it. She has written many songs intentionally for a country album for years now so I wouldn't be surprised if the album is much sooner than you may have been thinking. This year seems completely plausible and achievable. She has the songs, she just needs to get them recorded.

Yeah, she has written songs for everybody but nobody seems to pick them up. No More Heartaches (a favorite of mine) and So Close To Heaven were both serviced to Trisha Yearwood but she turned them down.

Not a cover song. One of many unpublished older songs. "Divine Communion" was a collaboration between Jewel and Lenedra, written shortly before the "Spirit" album sessions back in 1998. The lyrics fall somewhere between "Face Of Love" and "Life Uncommon." A spritual love song is a relatively accurate description.

This was such a fertile songwriting era that Jewel had enough new material for several albums. She had to whittle her choices down to songs that fit into her vision for the album AND that she could develop on tour with her band. "Divine Communion" didn't quite fit that criteria.

J & L did perform it a handful of times, but it was only at private events like the above mentioned house concert and at weddings of friends. Much like "Face Of Love," it made a perfect spiritually oriented wedding song.

If Jewel ever wishes to do a album of wedding songs, we'll dig it out for consideration, but at the moment, we're discussing songs with a country flavor for her next album. Between all the new songs written in the last year or so and an extensive catalogue of unreleased songs that could work, the list is quite impressive. We're just getting started and we're up to nearly 40 possibilities already.

Awhile back someone here came up with the idea of "Modern Day Troubador" for the country album.....I LOVE IT!!!!!! I wonder if she'll add Stephenville, TX on the new album?? The video's already done and there was no way in hell that Atlantic would ever promote that song since it's country. I think she really needs to give this song a chance! :-)

It would seem really weird not to but then again, it's already on GAIW.

However, it's not like Jewel hasn't put the same songs on 2 albums before - Fragile Heart for instance.
